Over a year ago I joined Be the Match Registry. It is a national Bone Marrow Registry where (when you join) your info goes into the registry and anyone who needs a Bone Marrow Transplant goes through them to find a match. Many patients with Leukemia and many other life threatening diseases depend on this Registry to find a match to SAVE THEIR LIFE. Every year thousands of children, brothers, sisters, moms and dads just like you and me are diagnosed with these life threatening illnesses. 70% of these patients do not have a family member that matches, thus where this Registry comes in. Without people like me and you, those 30% of children, family and friends will die. Be the Match Registry helps facilitate over 5,200 transplants a year through their program! What a blessing! It is FREE to join, all they do is send you a packet in the mail, you swab your cheeks with some Q-tips, and send them back (with pre-paid postage)! Now, I will say if you are a match to someone, you will, of course, have an outpatient procedure where they go in to your hip and remove some Bone Marrow... But, I look at it this way... God gave me this body, to work His way and help His children... What better way? AND if I do get chosen, WHICH I HAVE WANTED SINCE THE BEGINNING, I just think of it as an excuse to miss a little work and to take a nap at the dr's office... I mean, US MOM's Don't get a nap that often any more! So, really... yes, I may be in a tad bit of paid for a day or so, but UMM, HELLO, the result is helping to SAVE SOMEONE'S LIFE!!! To me, it is a no-brainer! So, if you are interested in joining, you just go here and sign up... you can read all about the program and if for some reason you sign up now and are part of the Registry and are picked... you can always back out later (though I am not sure why anyone would want to do that). Anyway, just thought I would share and just had it on my heart after the newsletter I got from them... I hope everyone has a blessed and wonderful weekend!
