12 weeks pregnant
Things are changing fast. You’re reaching the home stretch of the first trimester (we know, finally!) at 12 weeks which means your hormones are likely to tone things down a bit -- which might make you feel a little less emotional! And it will probably help the symptoms subside a bit, too. One warning though: your morning sickness and fatigue might get replaced by headaches and dizziness. But we think that’s a reasonable trade-off. The other big change? Baby’s almost done developing her body’s important systems and parts, which means, it’s mostly about getting bigger and more mature from here on out. Around week 12, you might want to know more about baby, so you’re probably having genetic testing done to determine her risk of birth defects or other problems. This can be a little scary -- and confusing -- so be sure to ask your OB plenty of questions, and know that it’s much more likely baby’s A-OK than anything else.
So, yesterday (Monday, February 25, 2013) we had our 12 week check up! PRAISE God it was perfect! We got to see baby plum (that is the fruit we are on now), hear his/ her heartbeat (174bpm), measure him/her, counted all the toes and fingers (there are 10 each!)... SO that was great. First, he did the vaginal ultrasound then he did the sonogram! I felt like we were making some progress having to go to the sonogram! That is about it. I am rarely nauseated, if so it comes in waves and does not last long. The only thing that is really bothering me are my hips (very painful), a pinched nerve in my upper back, and underlying headaches. The only thing you can really take is tylenol and anyone who has pain knows that doesn't do anything. I cannot sleep and just toss and turn all night and am so exhausted all day. So, really doing well... those aches and pains are really rough sometimes but I know it could be much worse! With Logan, I was so sick, for the first and second trimester, so thus far, it is much better! To me, it still seems a little surreal. I mean, I know I am pregnant, we have seen him/ her several times, but it is just weird, don't know how to explain it- just hasn't sunk in yet and honestly I don't think it will until we find out the sex and I feel him/her kicking (which coincidentally are around the same time). Other good news is that baby plum looked so good that I get to go every 4 weeks instead of 3! I would love going more often but that would mean something were wrong, so I am glad we got to that point. We go again at 16 weeks for just a quick appointment then we will go at 20 to find out sex- which is kinda irritating because I know that when I go at 16 weeks we will be at a point that we could find out the sex, but I am just going to be patient and enjoy this time. So, my next appointment is March 26... so we will see how this next month goes! These pictures are not super great, but oh well...
